Fat Bastard Announces Release of Chardonnay in Bagnum.

NO GLASS, ALL CLASS.

Australian wine brand Fat Bastard has today launched an extension of the popular Fat Bastard range, the 2022 Chardonnay in a bagnum format.

Responding to the growing trend in the popularity of alternate formats, the team at Fat Bastard has unveiled a larger, more portable size of their popular Californian chardonnay.

For the past three years, Fat Bastard Business Manager Kate Lawton has been following the customer data on the growth in demand for packaging of new shapes and sizes liquor outlets across the country.

“Throughout Australia, increasing consumer demands are evident for wines in novel formats; cans, boxed wine, and most significantly bagnums. It shows wine lovers care more than just what’s in the bottle,” said Lawton. “some outlets are reporting uplifts of 150% year on year” she added.

A portmanteau of bagged wine and magnum, bagnums are made from a laminated polymer material lined with aluminum and contain the equivalent of two standard 750ml bottles. The relatively new format stands upright on the shelf or in the fridge and wine is poured out through a small tap at its base.

The bagnum’s lightweight design boasts a lower carbon footprint than its glass counterparts, lasts 18 months on the shelf and remains fresh for 30 days once opened.

“Fat Bastard Chardonnay is made in the style of classic Californian examples, unashamedly bold and buttery. It’s the proud ‘house wine’ for many lovers of the ‘old school’ style.. The new bagnum format allows Fat Bastard Chardnnay drinkers more time to enjoy the wine once it’s been opened” Kate adds.

While retail is a major focus for Fat Bastard’s distributor red+white, the company’s National Sale Director Dominic Robinson sees opportunity with the on-premise channel too.

“Many of our customers, like smaller licensed cafes and neighbourhood restaurants struggle with wastage. These bagnums allows the restaurateur a month to serve the wine once it’s been opened. Compared to the be 1-3 days for a bottle of standard wine, that’s quite acost-saving benefit” he said.

Fat Bastard Chardonnay in Bagnum will be available to all channels nationally via red+white from November 22nd 2024.
